Kwakiutl Bee Mask

This Kwakiutl Bumble Bee mask (aka the ‘scratcher’) is hand-carved from cedar with cedar bark and cedar stingers. Children wearing the mask during Potlatch ceremonies perform a bumble-bee dance, where they buzz around the room - providing some comic relief in what is an otherwise serious occasion. This unique example sports a moustache – just for the fun of it!
